Last week, I attended a three-day conference organised by Affinity.
Papers were distributed before the event for delegates to read through and were as follows:
The Power and Personhood of God—Mostyn Roberts
Faith and Reason: Reflections on Belief in God—Robert Letham
The God of Unchanging Glory: From Nicaea to Hegel and Back—Dr Thomas Brand
The Weaknesses of Christ: Their Theological and Pastoral Significance—Dr Steven Duby
The Trinitarian Resurgence?—Michael McClenahan
After each paper was summarised by its author, we broke off into discussion groups of eight to ten people. The material was designed to stretch us...and it did. We discussed God's simplicity, aseity, and impassibility; Jesus Christ and the Beatific Vision; how to understand Jesus's weaknesses; and the importance of sound trinitarian theology.
Apart from the stretching of our minds, the act of dwelling on the things of God for several days was a blessing in itself, and the fellowship was sweet. Conversations were had and new friends made.
There were stalls by a number of Christian organizations, and I was pleasantly surprised to see some I've never before heard of. There was also the ubiquitous bookstall which I successfully avoided buying from!
The event will, DV, next take place in two years' time, and I greatly look forward to it.
